• Accuracy: Not skipping, substituting, or adding characters. Reading should be precise.
• Expression: Conveying emotions through tone and pitch, matching the content of the passage. This includes rising intonation for questions and appropriate emphasis for exclamations.

2. Stimulus-Based Conversation (看录像会话) — 30 Marks

This section assesses a student's ability to communicate effectively, think critically, express ideas clearly, and demonstrate strong Mandarin fluency based on a video stimulus. Key criteria include:

• Content & Elaboration: Responses should be coherent, insightful, and well-structured, moving beyond mere description of the video to offer opinions and reflections. Students are expected to provide reasons, examples, and personal connections. One-line answers are insufficient.
• Vocabulary & Expression: Use of topic-appropriate vocabulary, variety of sentence structures, and connectors. Awareness of register (formal vs. conversational) is also assessed.
• Pronunciation: Accurate tones throughout spontaneous speech, with no repeated mispronunciations.
• Fluency & Delivery: No long pauses, filler sounds ("um," "like"), and confident delivery. Students should speak clearly and confidently, maintaining eye contact and using positive body language.

Official Rubric and AL Band Examples

It is important to note that the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) does not publicly publish per-dimension mark splits within Reading Aloud or Conversation, nor does it release specific band descriptors or score thresholds for AL1, AL2, AL3, etc. The detailed rubrics and AL band descriptors often used by tuition centres are interpretations derived from practice rubrics used across Singapore schools and tuition centres, serving as a coaching framework rather than official guidelines.
